Short description of the Discovery department
The Research Department forms the foundation of the VectorY proprietary and partnered programs and, together with the Vector Development department, works towards the development of vectorized antibody treatments for neurodegenerative diseases. We develop and test new therapeutic candidates in different in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical settings and models, to select and advance the therapeutic candidate towards the clinical translation.
Job description
We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Scientist to join our Discovery team. In this hands-on laboratory role, you will develop and perform in vitro screening and validation assays using disease-relevant models to advance therapeutic discovery programs. Your work will focus on neuronal cell culture, phenotypic screening, imaging-based assays, and molecular biology techniques, in collaboration with experts across neuroscience, cell biology, molecular and AAV biology, and drug discovery.
Main responsibilities:
Manage and coordinate, in collaboration with other scientists, research projects to develop in vitro models of neurodegenerative disorders and test therapeutic candidates.
Own, design and execute experiments, in collaboration with technicians, for the development and optimization of disease-relevant cellular models.
Work in cross-functional teams, collaborating with other scientists within the different VectorY’s departments.
Performs line managerial duties for Technicians.
Document the work in study plans and reports.
Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data in a clear and scientifically rigorous manner.
Maintain communication and collaborations with third parties, such as CROs or academic institutions.
Skills and Qualifications:
PhD in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
Strong understanding of CNS biology, molecular biology, and disease mechanisms, expertise in neurodegenerative disorders such as ALS and FTD is a big plus.
Extensive experience with aseptic neuronal cell culture techniques.
Experience with human iPSC-derived neuronal cultures is preferred.
Expertise in fluorescence microscopy and cell-based assays, combined with strong analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to design, lead, and execute research projects effectively.
Ability to work independently, with strong problem-solving skills.
Strong collaborative mindset and ability to work productively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
