Junior Scientist Pre-Clinical Translation – In vivo

Work for an Organization that brings innovative therapies to patients worldwide.

VectorY combines the therapeutic potential of antibodies combined with AAV based delivery to develop long-lasting therapeutic solutions for neurodegenerative diseases of high unmet medical need.

Founded in August 2020, and based in the Amsterdam Science Park, VectorY is a fully integrated precision medicines company focused on the development of innovative vectorized antibody therapies for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS and Huntington’s disease.

With R&D facilities in Amsterdam, VectorY develops proprietary & partnered programs based on its novel AAV-based vectorized antibody gene therapy platform.

Short description of the role

The Research Department develops new technologies and innovations in vectorized antibodies to develop novel treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular focus on CNS proteinopathies. We test new therapeutic candidates in both in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical settings and models aimingto translatie of these novel therapies into clinical development.

We are looking for a Junior Scientist to join our Pre-Clinical Translation team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in in vivo models, histology and a strong commitment to advancing drug development.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Develop, optimize, and execute histology and tissue-based assays to support preclinical research projects across multiple programs.

  • Perform routine and advanced histological techniques, embedding, sectioning (cryostat and microtome).

  • Develop and optimize histology methods, such as immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), RNAscope in situ hybridization, and multiplex staining approaches.

  • Support method qualification and robustness testing, including optimization of protocols, controls, and troubleshooting of technical issues.

  • Perform quantitative and qualitative image analysis, working with digital pathology tools to extract reproducible, biologically meaningful data.

  • Contribute to the data analysis strategy and closely collaborate with biostatistics vendors.

  • Maintain high standards of experimental documentation, data integrity, and sample traceability in line with internal quality expectations.

  • Collaborate closely with in vivo, bioanalytics, and translational science teams to align histology outputs with study objectives.

  • Support sample logistics and workflow coordination, including tissue inventory management and interactions with external CROs when applicable.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of histology workflows, protocols, and laboratory organization.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, or a related field is prefered

  • Strong hands-on experience in histology, including tissue processing, sectioning, staining, and microscopy.

  • Familiarity with CNS tissue and neurodegenerative disease models is a must.

  • Practical experience with IHC and/or IF method development; experience with RNAscope or other spatial transcriptomic approaches is a strong plus.

  • Experience with image acquisition and analysis software (e.g., ImageJ, HALO, QuPath, or similar) is an advantage.

  • Highly detail-oriented, with a strong focus on data quality, reproducibility, and clean documentation.

  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks while escalating issues appropriately and contributing to team discussions.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, research-driven environment with changing priorities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Your Natural Strengths and Drivers:

  • Hands-on and execution-focused.Takes pride in producing high-quality experimental work.

  • Organized and reliable.Keeps samples, data, and documentation in order.

  • Curious and eager to learn. Open to adopting new techniques and improving existing methods.

  • Collaborative team player. Works well with scientists, technicians, and external partners.
