Scientist Assay Development

Work for an Organization that brings innovative therapies to patients worldwide.

VectorY combines the potential of antibodies and gene therapy to develop long-lasting therapeutic solutions for large disease areas of high unmet medical need.

Founded in August 2020, and based in the Amsterdam Science Park, VectorY is a fully integrated gene therapy company focused on the development of innovative therapeutics for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS and Huntington’s disease.

With R&D facilities in Amsterdam, VectorY develops proprietary & partnered programs based on its novel AAV-based vectorized antibody gene therapy platform.

Short description of the Assay Development Department

The Assay Development Department is responsible for the development and execution of assays for Baculovirus and AAV characterization. The group utilizes molecular and cell biology toolboxes to analyze AAV and Baculoviral vectors and develops and optimizes assays for virus characterization and release of virus seeds. The AD department supports other departments by executing assays on samples generated by other teams within VectorY. These assays are often intrinsically complex including molecular, analytical and cell-based assays, each having their focus and technical specialty. The Assay Development department is also responsible for Assay Qualification and Validation as well as Assay Transfer to QC teams or external partners, as well as for outsourcing samples testing at CROs.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Develop and optimize assays used for Baculovirus and AAV production and/or characterization.

  • Write and review SOPs, assay development study protocols and reports.

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert on Baculovirus and AAV structural and functional characterization.

  • Support the performance of assay for the research and development departments.

  • Assay qualification and validation.

  • Assay transfer to external partners and CROs.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD background in molecular biology, cell biology and/or molecular virology.

  • At least 3 years of experience in the industry.

  • Experience in techniques such as qPCR, dPCR, ELISA, cell-based (potency) assays, and DNA sequencing.

  • Experience in a GxP environment for assay development, validation and transfer.

  • Knowledge on DoE and statistics used for assay qualification and/or validation is highly preferred.
