Scientist Computational Biology

Work for an Organization that brings innovative therapies to patients worldwide.

VectorY combines the potential of antibodies and gene therapy to develop long-lasting therapeutic solutions for disease areas of high unmet medical need.

Founded in August 2020, and based in the Amsterdam Science Park, VectorY is a fully integrated gene therapy company focused on the development of innovative therapeutics.

With R&D and manufacturing facilities in Amsterdam, VectorY develops proprietary & partnered programs based on its novel AAV-based vectorized antibody gene therapy platform. Product candidates are based on next generation vector technologies, which will enable a proprietary and highly scalable manufacturing process within VectorY’s own manufacturing facilities.

Short description of the Vector Development Department

The Vector Technology teams forms the foundation of the VectorY products as they are responsible for the generation and characterization of novel AAV vectors. The team innovates by designing novel capsids, promoters and any other molecular design that enables the production of the Next Generation vectors for the development of innovative gene therapies for areas of high unmet medical need.

The group utilizes the molecular toolbox to design AAV vectors with novel characteristics such as specific cell targeting or specific transgene expression profiles. To that end, the team is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic computational biologist who can master computational approaches for capsid design and promoter design.

Main responsibilities of the role

  • The scientist owns, manages and coordinates activities within Vector Technologies team.

  • Manages complex scientific projects in the field of computational biology and structural virology to enable design of novel AAV vectors.

  • Develop and execute computational strategies to design biologically active molecules using state of the art molecular modeling and chemo/bioinformatics techniques.

  • Interprets protein structural data using computational modelling tools to analyse protein-protein interactions.

  • Can set up workflows and in silico models to enable automated analyses for AAV capsid design.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD in computational biology, computational chemistry, structural biology, protein engineering or related subject area.

  • Strong knowledge of protein structure, protein bioinformatics and prediction of protein-protein interactions interphases and key binding hotspots.

  • Demonstrated skills with structural modelling platforms (e.g., Schrodinger).

  • Experience with biologics discovery and design will be an advantage.

  • Background in virology or viral vectors is a plus.

  • Communication skills and team spirit.

  • Preferably experience in industry setting and in drug discovery environment.

Your Natural Strengths and Drivers

Impeccable scientific rigor and a passion for innovation in the field of Viral Vector development. You are driven by a high paced and dynamic environment to develop the Next Generation AAV Vectors.
