Scientist Vector Development

Work for an Organization that brings innovative therapies to patients worldwide

VectorY combines the potential of antibodies and gene therapy to develop long-lasting therapeutic solutions for large disease areas of high unmet medical need. Founded in August 2020, and based in the Amsterdam Science Park, VectorY is a fully integrated gene therapy company focused on the development of innovative therapeutics for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS and Huntington’s disease. With R&D facilities in Amsterdam, VectorY develops proprietary & partnered programs based on its novel AAV-based vectorized antibody gene therapy platform.

Short description of the Vector Development department

The Vector Development department forms the foundation of the VectorY products as they are responsible for the generation and characterization of novel AAV vectors. These vectors are produced on the Baculovirus Expression Vector system (BEVs) in insect cells. The group utilizes the molecular toolbox to design baculoviral and AAV vectors with novel characteristics such as specific cell targeting or specific transgene expression profiles. Furthermore, the group is responsible for generation of Baculoviral seeds which are used by all other VectorY teams for further development. In this role, the department works in close collaboration with the production process and assay development groups.

Main responsibilities of the role

  • Act as responsible scientist in the generation and characterization of baculovirus seeds and ensures high quality standards within the viral production processes and assays.

  • Manages technicians and coordinates daily activities in the Vector Development team. Writes and reviews experimental data, SOPs, study plans and reports.

  • Coordinates lab-logistics such as ordering, planning-centers and alignment of lab-activities between departments.

  • Innovates on the molecular design & process set up for production and characterization of baculoviral and AAV Vectors.

  • Connects daily lab activities to larger program and/or department deliverables.

Skills and Qualifications

  • PhD background in molecular biology, cell biology and/or molecular virology.

  • Strong molecular biology background. Scientist Vector Development.

  • Experience in cell culture/banking and working with (baculo and AAV) viruses.

  • Experience in analytical techniques such as qPCR, dPCR, ELISA, Western Blotting and (Next-Generation) DNA sequencing.

  • Knowledge on, DoE, statistics and NGS analytics are highly preferred.

  • Preferably experience in industry setting.
