Scientist Vector Technology

Work for an Organization that brings innovative therapies to patients worldwide.

VectorY combines the therapeutic potential of antibodies and gene therapy to develop long-lasting therapeutic solutions for large disease areas of high unmet medical need.

Founded in August 2020, and based in the Amsterdam Science Park, VectorY is a fully integrated gene therapy company focused on the development of innovative therapeutics.

With R&D and manufacturing facilities in Amsterdam, VectorY develops proprietary & partnered programs based on its novel AAV-based vectorized antibody gene therapy platform. Product candidates are based on next generation vector technologies, which will enable a proprietary and highly scalable manufacturing process within VectorY’s own manufacturing facilities.

Short description of the Vector Development Department

The Vector Development department forms the foundation of the VectorY products as they are responsible for the generation and characterization of novel AAV vectors. These vectors are produced on the Baculovirus Expression Vector system (BEVs) in insect cells. The group utilizes the molecular toolbox to design AAV vectors with novel characteristics such as specific cell targeting or specific transgene expression profiles. Furthermore, the group is responsible for generation of AAV and Baculoviral seeds which are used by all other VectorY teams for further development.

Main responsibilities of the role

  • Own, manage and coordinate the research activities to generate and test the Next Generation AAV vectors.

  • Own, design and conduct experiments in vitro and in vivo models to characterize novel AAV vectors with respect to vector targeting and transgene expression.

  • Support and participate in the design and development of AAV vectors with novels characteristics.

  • Work in cross-functional teams, collaborating with other scientists within different VectorY’s departments.

  • Performs line managerial duties for Technicians.

  • Document the work in study plans and reports.

  • Secure data-management, processing of the results and presentation to key stakeholders.

  • Establish and maintain communication and collaborations with third parties, such as CROs or academic institutions.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biology, Cell or Molecular Biology, or a related field, industry experience is a plus.

  • Demonstrated research experience and ability to effectively facilitate, lead, and organize technical projects.

  • In-depth knowledge of, and hands-on experience with, the design and execution of experiments in in vitro cell models. Knowledge of hiPSC culture is a plus.

  • Molecular Biology or Virology expertise preferably with affinity for bioinformatics.

  • Required in-depth knowledge of molecular biology techniques aimed at quantifying DNA, RNA and proteins. Familiarity with high-content or automated imaging is a plus.

  • Experience in viral vector design (preferably AAV).

  • Independent and drive for timely completion of goals.

  • Strong problem solving skills.

  • Fluent in English (verbal, written and scientific).

  • Strong ability to collaborate with colleagues productively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Background in neurobiology is a plus.

  • Experience with in vivo models is a plus.
