Scientist Translational Biology

Work for an Organization that brings innovative therapies to patients worldwide.

VectorY combines the potential of antibodies and gene therapy to develop long-lasting therapeutic solutions for disease areas of high unmet medical need.

Founded in August 2020, and based in the Amsterdam Science Park, VectorY is a fully integrated gene therapy company focused on the development of innovative therapeutics.

With R&D and manufacturing facilities in Amsterdam, VectorY develops proprietary & partnered programs based on its novel AAV-based vectorized antibody gene therapy platform. Product candidates are based on next generation vector technologies, which will enable a proprietary and highly scalable manufacturing process within VectorY’s own manufacturing facilities.

Short description of the Research Department

The Research Department designs and implements new technologies and ideas from the vectorized antibody and neurodegeneration field. We form the foundation of the VectorY proprietary or partnered programs and together with the Vector Development department work towards development of novel treatments for neurodegenerative diseases with a focus on CNS proteinopathies. We are testing new therapeutic candidates in different in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical settings and models. The Research department works towards the clinical translation of the programs based on novel biomarkers and assays.

Main responsibilities of the role

  • Use appropriate in vivo models to understand the mechanisms by which our drug candidates may contribute to efficacy and potential adverse events in patients.

  • Conduct efficacy, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics of drug candidates in in-vivo models.

  • Provide scientific and technical assessment of new biomarkers and develops biomarker assays for the Translational Biology group.

  • Report and maintain accurate and detailed experimental information in a timely fashion.

  • Works with the other scientists within Research, Clinical and Vector Development and Manufacturing departments.

  • Establish and maintain communication and collaborations with third parties, such as CROs or academic institutions.

  • Support business-related documentation and presentation of R&D activities to management team, KOLs and investor parties.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biology, Cell or Molecular Biology, or a related field, ideally with a >3 years industry experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of, and hands-on experience with, design and execution of in-vivo models.

  • Experience with CNS-related pathologies (e.g. ALS, HD, PD, etc.) is a plus.

  • Experience in designing and performing molecular and cellular biology techniques, including but not limited to administration of test compounds, collecting tissue samples, DNA/RNA/protein analysis, and immunohistochemistry.

  • Able to design, conduct and execute exploratory research programs in the context of biomarker development.

  • Able to work independently and in a team in a flexible manner.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • A documented and strong ability to collaborate with colleagues productively in a fast-paced environment.
